Safdar has worked for some of the largest investment banks in the world (UBS, Credit Agricole, JP Morgan) and has spent over a decade in setting up the Islamic Banking businesses and teams at these banks. Most recently he established and led the Islamic Banking business globally for JP Morgan, whilst based in Bahrain during 2007-2011.

Safdar has managed and led Shariah compliant transactions in excess of $10bn over the last decade, including many ground-breaking and “World’s First” headline transactions.

His deals have received several awards from Euromoney and Islamic Finance News, the two most respected accolades in the Islamic Banking Industry

He has been involved in creating, developing and delivering award winning solutions to the global markets including capital markets, liquidity, treasury products, risk management, trade finance, investments and funds.

Safdar is a well known figure in the industry and is a frequent speaker and chair at conferences. He has published many thought leadership articles covering how the industry can achieve progress and still adhere to its ethical roots. For many years he has pushed for further ethical development of the Islamic banking industry in order to move away from over reliance on interest and debt based markets.

Safdar’s client base includes all of the largest Islamic banks in the world, as well as developmental firms, investors, and issuers in the industry globally. Safdar has personally worked with all the major Islamic scholars in the industry.

Safdar has been based both in London and the Middle East over the last 15 years, developing extensive experience of the markets in UK/Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
